Friday Five.

1) What is your favorite mode of travel? (Car, train, plane, etc).

Plane is the quickest, but going through security nowadays just annoys the life out of me. Put your liquids/creams/electronic devices out for inspection, answer a series of idiotic questions, remove your coats, shoes and belts, allow us to search your body cavities for bombs… Cars are great to enjoy the scenery, but some highways can be really boring and I absolutely *hate* traffic jams. Trains are safe and fast, but it’s very expensive in the UK and you can never stop to take a picture of a beautiful place.

2) Where is the northernmost place you’ve traveled? The southernmost?

North: Finland. South: Argentina, I guess.

3) What is the last place you visited for the first time?

Sicily, in Italy.

4) Of all the places you’ve traveled, which is your favorite?

That’s a hard question. I like several different places for several different reasons. I loved the food and the people in Italy, I loved the summer in Sweden, the sense of belonging that I get when I’m in Brazil, going out with my friends in London, the sea in the Channel Islands, the autumn in Eilenriede when I’m in Hannover, the lovely reindeer stew and smoked salmon that I ate while in Finland, walking aimlessly in Paris just taking up all that beauty. But nothing beats the winter up in the hills in Rio. It’s good that I can feel at home at such a beautiful place.

5) Where would you most like to travel to next?

Tokyo. And then New York, maybe. But it’s more likely that it’ll be France and Greece (or Scotland).
